Germantown Centre Swim Team honored by Mayor and Aldermen

The Germantown Centre Swim, the Gators; the parent support group and the team’s coaches were recently recognized by the Germantown Board of Mayor and Alderman for their success this year, the best’s in it’s nine-year history.

Head Coach Scott Robinson and assistant coaches Richard Fagden, Michael Brown, Andrea Walter, Mate Wierdl, and David Han were honored.

There are 92 members of the team ranging in age from five to 18. The parent’s organization leadership includes Rob Brown, Walter Smalley, Linda Weghorst, Kathleen Clark, Claudia Scott, Carol Smith, and Lynn Mast. They were recognized along with other members who played a significant role this year - Jane Work, Jeanne Exner, Buzzy Boehme, Sueanne Boehme, Laura Brown, Terri Glazer, and Christy Smaller.

This year the team placed first at the All-American City Invitational in Tupelo, Miss. and in the Memphis Swim Conference Championship Meet; took first in 12 and under and second overall at the Clayton Shaw Park Invitational in St. Louis, Mo.; and captured fifth place at the Paul W. "Bear Bryant Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Seven swimmers won high point awards for their age and gender at the Memphis Swim Conference Meet.

Seven other swimmers won either first or second runner up in the point standings at the MSC Championships. A total of 25 Gator swimmers qualified for Southeastern Swimming Championships in Tuscaloosa and 22 of them recently attended the meet. The Gators finished in the top 20 with 90 points, the most ever scored by the team. Four swimmers placed in the top eight and four different Gator relay teams placed in the top eight. There were 45 teams in the event.
